Since he started doing dental implants in our office more than 5 years ago, Dr. Watkins has been in constant pursuit of the best education and training possible.
In 2017, Dr. Watkins spent many hours traveling to Miami to participate in Implant Seminar’s “Power Series”. Power Series is an invite only elite access program offered to doctors who have demonstrated unmatched drive and dedication to dentistry. This program has allowed Dr. Bruce Watkins to learn from the best and brightest educators including pioneers in the field of implant dentistry and the world’s leading oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Amongst those from whom he has been educated are these prestigious doctors:
Arun Garg, D.M.D.- Dr. Garg is the founder of Implant Seminar’s Power Series. For over 20 years he has been a professor of surgery in the division of oral and maxillofacial surgery and director of residency training at University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. He is one of the world’s preeminent authorities on bone biology, bone harvesting and bone grafting for dental implant surgery. He has authored and published 9 books. He and Dr. Robert Marx, D.D.S. pioneered the use of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in dental surgery. Dr. Watkins is now utilizing that procedure in our office. In addition, Dr. Watkins was able to join Dr. Garg on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. His charitable organization Fundacion Dr. Garg provides 200-300 patients with free smile restorations every single month.
Rolf Ewers, M.D., D.M.D., Ph.D.- Dr. Evers has headed the oral and maxillofacial surgery departments for Medical University of Vienna, Austria and the University Hospital of Kiel, Germany. He did the research and development for a now commercially produced bone grafting material. He was the first to use augmented reality and a virtual patient system to conduct the first live interactive tele-operations with these for which he was awarded the Merceir prize for process innovation. He also conducted significant research on Bicon ultra short implants. Currently, he is the chairman of the CMF institute of Vienna.
Andre Saadoun, D.D.S., M.S.- Dr. Saadoun is an internationally known lecturer in aesthetic periodontology and implantology. He is on the editorial board of numerous scientific journals and has written over 150 articles. He is a diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontology and International Congress of Oral Implantology in addition to being a member of honor of the American Dental Implant Association.
Robert E. Marx, D.D.S.- Dr. Marx has won many awards in the area of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has focused his research interests on growth factor, wound healing, tissue engineering and stem cells. He is a pioneer in his field developing new concepts and treatment for pathology of the head and neck and reconstructive surgery. As aforementioned, he and Dr. Garg pioneered the use of PRP in dental surgery. He is currently the professor of surgery of chief of the division of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Thomas Albrekston, M.D., Ph.D.- Dr. Albrekston is the editor of 10 scientific books. His Ph.D. thesis was on the healing of bone grafts. He has won numerous awards for papers on biomaterials and implants. He was the righthand researcher for the “father of the dental implant”, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark M.D., Ph.D. Together they researched the first concepts of bone anatomy, healing and dental implant design. Their research and accomplishments have been instrumental in implant treatment for over 50 years.
To reiterate, this educational opportunity is made available to only select dentists from around the country. Therefore, Dr. Watkins’ level of education in the areas of implant dentistry and related oral and maxillofacial surgeries and grafting is difficult to match.
